Sumo Glass Studio reflects the combined artistic talents of Marty Hook and Janet Sweeney. Both Marty and Janet attended the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. Marty has lent his expertise for numerous workshops at San José State University, San Francisco State University and Shasta College. After working a number of years assisting in the production of glass in other studios, he built his own state-of-the-art Sumo Glass Studio in Northern California. Janet completed the BFA program in ceramics. In 1991-1993 she attended San Jose State University in California and studied with Sam Richardson, Rupert Garcia, Barbara Degineved and Stanton Welch. She completed the Masters of Fine Arts program in Spatial Arts.
Sumo Glass Studio specializes in original designs of handblown glass created with a unique contemporary vision of nature. In glass we explore, create,
and elevate the spirit and mystery of nature of which we are a part. We strongly feel that one can not negate the role nature has in our everyday life. It connects us to society and reminds us to have compassion towards all living things. Our experience with nature has inspired us to reflect its beauty, peace and wonderment.
